First responders are on the front line in combating the opioid epidemic. The American Medical Association reported that the United States experienced over 90,000 fatal drug overdoses in 2020. Communities are coming together to create an efficient response to counter these increasing numbers. Establishing an effective program to prevent drug overdoses require a coordinated effort between law enforcement, first responders, mental health/substance abuse providers, public health, and community partners.
