This course is about Person-Centered Approaches when working with individuals with Substance Use Disorder or SUD. This is a foundational course to other courses on this topic. In this course, we will discuss Stigma and Discrimination, Labeling Theory and why Language Matters, Adverse Childhood Experiences (or ACEs), and how this impacts the Legal and Correctional Systems and a Person-Centered Approach. The course will be divided into articles, handouts, videos, and presentations. As you go through this course at your own pace, take the time to consider how this content can impact the work that you do and how you go about helping your clients.

There is not an equivalent Urban SUD Resource Center. However, all of the information and tools on this website are available to the public, regardless of location or grant status.

What are the Rural Centers of Excellence?

The RCOEs were established in 2019 by the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP), an initiative of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that aims to reduce morbidity and mortality related to SUD in rural areas.
