“WWAMI researchers describe trends in the supply and distribution of clinicians in various settings: primary care, behavioral health, and obstetrical care, as well as dentists, surgeons, community health workers, and home health aides, in the rural vs. urban U.S. workforce nationally and regionally.
One of the findings is that the supply of behavioral health clinicians is lower in rural counties. “”The number of behavioral health clinicians per 100,000 population in rural counties ranged from 27% (psychiatrists) to 70% (psychiatric nurse practitioners) of urban areas.””
